The executive director Kriti Foundation Aparna Singh welcomed all participant & explained that Asha/ANM/Aganwadi Workers are directly connected with the grassroots level in the area so they can be very effective in spreading the awareness like motivating women for delivery in hospital, and asking them to get their anti natal name registered and telling them about the advantage of all this .She further stated that there should be a very good coordination between PHNs. ANMs and Asha workers for effective results. She further said that these grass root workers are like mukhbirs and can help in finding where the theft is taking place. She further stated that this trekking system has to be very strong for effective result. She further told that only govt. alone can’t increase the sex ratio it has to be collective effort by all .
Ms Neera Arora shared her own experience of working with the community people and told the participants that though there is a law (PCPNDT Act)against sex determination but practice continues and how doctors have developed different types of symbols for indicating the sex of the child during the ultrasound. She requested the participants for convincing the people in their area that daughters are assets not burden. She elaborated on governments plan to empower women with education, employment and economic independence.
Dr. Arti also highlighted ethical responsibilities of Radiologists and Gynecologist while conducting ultrasound.
